Introduction

This report doesn’t pretend to be completely or correct, I only try to express my personal experiences with this model and the first steam-ups with it. Everybody will solve problems in his own manner depending on experience, skills and available tools. My report gives an impression what problems I have encountered and how they are solved.

Why this model?

After steaming with my Mamod for many happy years I did like to start again with an other live steam locomotive. The choice was not easy considering the large number of models to pick from. Of interest was that it should be a kit and painted. Well, this reduces the number of candidates rapidly. The final two candidates are a Bertie of Roundhouse (only ready-to-run) or one out of the Regner foundry.

The choice was finally made by my girlfriend, she thought the Regner 99.211 is a handsome locomotive. Given the facts that the engine was a kit, and painted the decision was made and an order was granted to "Modelbouwatelier Apeldoorn" (NL).

This model engineering shop took care of the further organisation as ordering it in Germany and transportation till on our doormat. Many hints and tips I have received from "Modelbouwatelier Apeldoorn" so that with sufficient trust I could start with the assembling of the main three building sets.

Description of the prototype

The model is based on a locomotive that has been used on the German Island Wangerooge, where she rode the 1000-mm gauge-track. According to the magazine called "Eisenbahn-Fahrzeug-Katalog Schmalspur-Dampflokomotiven" (ISSN 0949-197X / B 12126 F) she was build in the year 1929 by Henschel. The official description of this type of locomotive is Cn2t ("C" number of axles, "n" saturated steam (nassdampf), "2" number of cylinders, "t" tank engines).

The machine has serviced from 1929 until 1957, in 1968 she is placed as a monument near the lighthouse of Wangerooge. See figure 1.

Description of the model

The Regner 99.211 (see figure 2) is a single flue gas fired 0-6-0 tank engine scale 1:22.5 for 45-mm track (LGB scale). The cylinders, valve gear, boiler and frame are the same as that from the Regner 99.4701 model. Much attention is spend on details and technique. The engine is fitted with a complete functional Walschaerts valve gear, so driving on steam- expansion can be done.

Figure 2

Manometer or RC components are no part of the standard building blocks; the engine is prepared to fit them. A two channel 40 MHz AM RC-set is fitted in my model, one channel to regulate speed and the second channel to control the direction of travel via the Walschaerts valve gear.
